Dolphin Watching

Goa is famous all over the world for its magnificent sun bathed beaches. Tourists from all parts of the globe arrive in Goa in large numbers to enjoy the carefree and jovial ambience, and the amazing range of sumptuous cuisine. The water sports of Goa are equally popular. The rivers and the Arabian Sea offer a wide range of recreational options for the tourists. The river cruises and speed boat rides take tourists to the spots well known for dolphin watching. Watching these friendly sea creatures swim together is a memorable experience that enriches your vacation in Goa.

Zuari, Mandovi, Sal and Chapora rivers are the important rivers in the state of Goa. These rivers are explored by the entertaining river cruises offered by the Goa tourism Development Corporation and some private operators. Apart from the sightseeing around the banks of the rivers, dolphin watching and crocodile spotting are the popular activities included by some of these cruises.

All the above mentioned rivers offer dolphin spotting trips. The dolphins are more likely to be seen at the confluence of the rivers with the sea. The small sea creatures are a delight to watch as they swim quite unwary of the passing boats. They have dark, silvery bodies that shine as they dive up and down the water, occasionally playing with each other.

Many of the famous beaches of Goa also offer dolphin watching facilities. Among these, Cavelossim beach and Varca beach are the notable ones. At Cavelossim beach, dolphin watching is very popular at Betty's place and near River Sal.

The Varca beach is also known to be a habitat of the bottlenose dolphins. Dolphin watching is extremely popular at this beach.

To watch the dolphins you need to go for an early trip. The dolphins can be seen in good numbers during the early part of the day. Most of the famous dolphin-watching trips start around 7-8 AM. As the day progresses, more boats come in and the dolphins slowly disappear towards the open sea.

A number of operators offer Dolphin spotting tours around the Goan beaches. Some of these are -
