Vagator Chapora

Around 24 kms from Panaji, the capital of Goa, Vagator Beach is the northernmost beach of Bardez Taluka. On the opposite bank of the river Chapora from Morjim, it is a beautiful beach with coconut palm trees, soft white sand, dramatic red cliffs, and a spectacular view of the Arabian Sea. The beach is as popular as the Anjuna beach in the northern part of Goa and is counted as one of the most well-known beaches of the state. Also famous as a romantic beach, it offers a great view of the sunset.

1. Beaches

Vagator beach is quite close to a number of very popular beaches of Goa such as Chapora, Anjuna, Calangute and Baga beaches. These beaches are a part of a famous chain of beaches in the northern part of the state, which are flanked by tourist all around the year.  

2. Chapora fort

Quite close the Vagator beach, Chapora beach is a 500 year old fort, overlooking the adjoining coast and the hills, located at a distance. Around 22 kms. from Panaji, this fort was erected by the erstwhile Portuguese rulers in the year 1617 and is made up of red laterite, right on the site of a former Muslim structure that was commissioned by Adil Shah.

3. Vagator springs

Vagator beach houses two fresh water springs, which are prime tourist attractions. The first spring is just 100 meters towards the north of the main beach. Once you come across a small part of the beach that has 2 shacks, you reach to the other fresh water spring in Ozran that is also known as Zor, right at the base of the hill.

4. Chapora Village

Chapora village is a small fishing village, standing along the beach which is a nice place to get a feel of the local way of life of the inhabitants. The homes of the inhabitants still have a strong Portuguese influence. Do not miss taking a leisure walk along the fishing jetty. The roads of the village are dotted with cafes, a number of small bars and shops selling interesting knick-knacks.

5. Shiva Carving

Also visit an amazing rock -cut idol with Lord Shiva’s face on the rock at the Ozran beach, which is one of the sub beaches of the Vagator.

Activities

In comparison to bustling beaches Anjuna, Baga or Calangute, Vagator is a calmer one. Nevertheless, this beach is an amazing location for the ones who love swimming as it is quite safe here. At this beach, there is presence of trainers and life guards to make your experience even safer. At some local shacks, necessary gear for swimming and other water sports is also available. There is a local handicrafts market as well where you can shop for local handicrafts like earthen pot and cane baskets as well as clothes. Do not miss gorging in local delicacies, one of which is Bebinca that is prepared from coconut.
