Celebrate All Things Goan at the Goa Carnival

Carnival is celebrated before the traditional festival called Lent. During the 40 days when lent is being celebrated,  there is partying or other any other kind of festive celebrations. The locals also refrain from eating meat or dairy products. There is an account in the Bible that during these days,  Lord Jesus had spent time in the wilderness. The whole community takes part in this fun-filled affair. This year, the Goa Carnival will be celebrated from February 8th to February 12th, 2013.  In comparison to other places such as Vasco, Largoa and so on, the carnival that is celebrated in  Panjim is the most well-known.

Actually this a Christian festival, but it is celebrated in Goa by people of all religions and castes with much fervor. During Carnival in Goa, people indulge dancing, music, singing, and sumptuous eating. Huge parades are also organized during this  time. The carnival comes to an end with  red-and-black dance held by the Club National in Panajim on the last day.

This carnival whose celebration actually started in Rome and Greece is around 500 years old.  The Portuguese during their rule in Goa had introduced the Carnival. Since its inception, Goa carnival is celebrated with a lot of enthusiasm. Because of such a grand scale celebration, it has gained a lot of popularity all around the world.

This carnival celebrated in most popular beach city of the country has made a popular  name and is visited by a lot of celebrities as well. Held in the month of February, during the carnival the  streets come alive with everyone in a happy mood. It is said that during ring these days,  the legendary king, Momo takes over the whole city.
